  State B Girls Golf Champion!
 Tara Nihart
Recap of the 2012 State B Golf Tournament

Tara played very well as she is now the 2012 State B girls Champion. As I went up to her after her final hole to give a hug and congratulate her on a great tournament, the first thing she said was, “I am so mad at myself for blowing up on those last holes”. Here she thought she may have squandered the championship but little to her knowledge she was still in first. There was a lot of pressure on the leaders coming down the stretch on some very challenging and intimidating finishing holes. But the job Tara did on her first 31 holes proved to be just enough to earn a state championship title.
Practice did not go so well on Sunday for Tara but she did learn a lot about the course she had never seen nor played on. Monday morning warm up on the range went much better than the day before. After warm-ups the golfers proceed to the #1 tee box where each player gets introduced to the gallery with their name and school just before they tee off. Sometimes the first tee jitters can get to a player and let the result of their first hit dictate their round so there were some anxious moments. Tara stepped up to the box after her introduction and drilled a long high towering drive down the middle. After that hit “wow’s” were heard from the crowd and from that point on Tara found her groove and played smart and consistent golf.
Monday she shot a 40 on the first nine and a 42 on the second nine for a total of 82 to place her in second place and was paired up with those in the final group of the day for Tuesday, which is reserved for the top four scoring players of day one. On Tuesday she carded a 40 again on the front nine and a 51 on the back nine for a total of 91. This gave her a two day total of 173 which bettered three others who scored a 174.
We are thankful for all the prayers for Tara during the tournament and especially on the second day, which I know the Lord was helping her finish through the rough final holes. Her marker that was monitoring the group said he was impressed how cool she stayed when things were going bad, in fact he believes her body temp must have read about 65°.
